Abstract

In the study, five exotic tropical, subtropical maize inbred lines were crossed with five Yunnan local maize inbred lines by Griffing Ⅳ mating design. The 45 crosses were evaluated in three different environments of Yunnan province and combining ability and genetic parameter of eight agronomic characters were analyzed. The results showed that the inbreds CML172, M4-11, 966, M4-6 and Pingjian-155 had higher general combining ability (GCA), inbreds TF97R-231 and CML295-10 had poor agronomic traits. The crosses M4-6×CML172, 966×CML172 had higher heterosis and high yield potential. Four traits such as plant height should be selected at early generation and three traits such as ear diameter should be selected at later generation. The combinations between the local germplasm in Yunnan and exotic germplasm usually had higher heterosis.
