Abstract
The classical probability machine is a vertical board of obstacles through which balls fall. Each time a ball meets an obstacle, the probability that it will continue its fall on the right side of the obstacle is 1/2, and likewise for the left side. The balls fall to the bottom of the board, where they form a very interesting curve. An excellent photograph of a probability machine appears in chapter 10 of the Thirty-fourth Yearbook of the NCTM.
