Abstract
This chapter is structured as follows: First, it presents accounts of CO 2 emissions released from China's transport sector, both on the national and regional level. Second, it analyzes the correlation between transport sector CO 2 emissions and socio-economic factors. Third, it explores the policies which affect low-carbon development in China's transport sector. Finally, it presents policy recommendations for low-carbon development in China's transportation sector. In the railway, aviation, and water transportation sectors, China can build onto and refine the comprehensive low-carbon transportation system, promote realization of energy saving and carbon reduction targets set for the 12th Five-Year Plan period, and seek positive strategies for coping with the serious challenges brought forth by climate change while satisfying the increased transport demand through bolstered management of energy saving and carbon emissions reduction requirements optimization of the energy structure, implementation of major energy saving and emissions reduction projects. Keywords: carbon dioxide emissions; China; low-carbon transportation system
