Abstract
Estimated demand models for eight paper product groups were developed. Paper product prices were explicitly specified so that price impact and price elasticities of demand can be estimated. The preliminary results indicate that, contrary to popular belief, prices do have significant effects on the demand for paper products, and the estimated short-run price elasticities of demand for paper are found to be quite different for various paper products. All estimated price elasticities are less than one in absolute terms, indicating that the demand for paper products are price inelastic as expected. Projections are made for future demand of each of the eight paper products. Overall, total paper demand is projected to grow at 4.2% annually between 1976 and 2000.
