Abstract

The pot experiment of wheat/broad bean intercropping and barley/broad bean intercropping were conducted to investigate the difference between intercropping and monocropping in water consumption and water use efficiency(WUE).The results showed that water consumption of all growth stage of wheat/broad bean intercropping were lower than wheat monocropping and broad bean monocropping. There were significant difference between wheat/broad bean intercropping and broad bean monocropping in broad bean branching stage. The water consumption of all growth stage of barley/broad bean intercropping was higher than barley monocropping. There was significant difference between barley/broad bean intercropping and barley monocropping in barley tillering stage. There was no significant difference between barley/broad bean intercropping and broad bean monocropping in barley individual growth stage and all growth stage.WUE of wheat intercropping and barley intercropping was higher than that of wheat monocropping and barley monocropping, but WUE of broad bean intercropping was lower than that of monocropping.
