Abstract

Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) cv. GB 8735 was compared with local cultivars in 9 villages in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states, N. Nigeria, in the 1996 rainy season. Yield averaged 1.22 t/ha in the improved cultivar and 0.90 t in the local cultivar. The improved cultivar was also desirable for its earliness.
