Introducing the close-to-nature forestry theory for promoting the development of silviculture.

This paper is an attempt to elaborate the theory of silviculture.Due to absence of theoretical guidelines for silviculture,the theory of close-to-nature forestry was introduced.As the theoretical guidelines for silviculture,the development,theory and characteristics of close-to-nature forestry were explained.It was thought that the close-to-nature forestry theory brings opportunities and challenges to traditional forestry management.Therefore,the silviculture objective and forestry management should be adjusted according to the theory of close-to-nature forestry and the destination of cultivating healthy forest.By learning from the experiences of other countries,China’s silviculture would be promoted by new ideologies and theories.
