Abstract
This textbook considers the different weather conditions that can have an impact on road traffic in the Netherlands, focussing on iciness in winter. It is meant for road managers, especially for those involved in the use of ice warning systems. The following subjects are discussed: (a) weather situations; (b) wind; (c) air humidity; (d) fog; (e) cloud; (f) radiation; (g) daily course of the weather elements; (h) non-meteorological influences on the weather; (i) temperature on and near the road; (j) precipitation and moisture on the road; (k) weather systems and weather situations producing precipitation; (l) meteorological visibility; and (m) weather forecasts. Questions are included at the end of each chapter, and the answers are presented.
