Abstract

This Circular contains a summary of the Proceedings of the Special Conference on Freight Transportation Data, entitled Changing Federal Role Since Deregulation. The conference was cosponsored by the Transportation Research Board Task Force on Freight Transportation Data and the Washington Chapter of the Transportation Research Forum. The summary is organized as follows: Keynote Address, K.B. Phillips; Needs for Freight Transportation Data in a Deregulated Environment: Part I and Part II; Coverage and Quality Problems with Existing Data Resources for Freight Transportation; Alternatives to Public Data Sources; Dinner Address, R.A. Waite; Institutional Opportunities and Constraints for Data Collection; and Audience Discussion: An Action Agenda for the TRB, TRF, and the Federal Government.
