Abstract
This paper describes the use of a tensiometer (or suction probe) that allows measurement of soil suction higher than 100kPa. The suction probe works due to a conditioning technique that avoids cavitation. The basic concepts behind the technique are presented. As an example of the use of suction probe, some results of soil suction measurement in compacted residual soil are presented. The results show the suction path of soil samples when they are allowed to absorb water. The ability of the equipment to instantly and continuously to register suction changes is highlighted.
