Abstract

During the 19th century Antwerp expanded greatly. Now it is trying to restore, by limitation of parking facilities and traffic, the residential functions of the inner town, which were lost with suburbanization. A circular motorway around the city has improved the traffic circulation, despite some shortcomings. Dispersion of authority makes rational planning difficult. Until recently, there had always been a lack of traffic planning. /TRRL/
