Abstract
By 1980 to 1981, California's Pacific Gas and Electric Co is planning addition and commissioning of some 2000 MW of combined cycle plant, bumping their installed gas turbine capacity up from present 200 MW of simple cycle machine. There are plans to install two plants at two different sites, which haven't been confirmed yet, pending review by regulatory commissions. PG and E is looking for 400 MW combined output with roughly 75 percent of the capacity gas turbine, for siting in the San Francisco Bay area, probably at the existing Potrero generating station. Plant cost is figured at around $350 per KW installed, burning No. 2 diesel oil at a cost of $2.50 per million Btu. Operating expenses of 1.13 cents per kW fixed costs, and 4.88 cents variable costs for total of 6.01 cents per kWh are predicted.
