Abstract
This article describes a slide-tape presentation entitled Safety Steps for Pedestrians which has been developed to help older adults increase their safety as predestrians. The presentation is the result of a joint effort between the Federal Highway Administration and the American Association of Retired Persons. The presentation emphasizes 3 types of messages: (1) the older pedestrians's responsibility for the individual's own safety; (2) engineering techniques to increase pedestrian safety; (3) organizing the local community to address pedestrian safety problems particularly with regard to the older citizen. Each of these areas is discussed in some detail.
