Abstract
The study is to reveal how the struggle for better life of the major character influences his personality. The objective of the study is to analyze the movie based on the structural analysis and the individual psychological analysis. This study is a qualitative study. The object of the study is Wayne Wang’s Maid in Manhattan movie. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. In collecting the data, the writer watches the movie and uses library research by collecting and selecting the appropriate data from many sources. In analysis the data, the writer uses descriptive technique. After analyzing the movie of Wayne Wang’s Maid in Manhattan, the writer concluded that there are several aspects of individual psychological approach of the major character. The aspects consist of fictional finalism, striving for superiority, inferiority feeling, style of life, social interest, and creative power. Marisa Ventura has some efforts to reach her fictional goal. She’d like to be a manager, besides she is falling in love with Chris. Finally, both Marisa and Christopher Marshall, two people from very different worlds overcome their differences and live together happily; the facts above show that the final goal of Marisa Ventura guides her to be more creative to catch her better life.
