Abstract
The Consortium of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, AT/Comm, IBM Japan and Regional Futures Research Center has been participating in a joint research and development project of the Nonstop Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) System in Japan (Sponsors: Japan's Ministry of Construction, the Japan Highway Public Corporation, the Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation, the Hanshin Expressway Public Corporation and the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Authority), which started in 1995. The Consortium has thus far conducted field tests related to both communications between vehicles and roadside and traffic operations at the actual toll gates or test courses, and indoor tests. Presented in this paper are results and achievements that the authors have acquired from the joint research.
