Abstract

Fly ash from power generation can be used in the production of cement-based materials. A research study was conducted in India to investigate the activation process of high-calcium fly ash using lime and gypsum as activators. The optimum activator dosage was determined. The strength characteristics of high-calcium fly ash concrete activated with lime and/or gypsum were examined. Lime addition did not influence the compressive strength of fly ash in concrete, but gypsum addition improved the compressive strength. The optimum gypsum dose was 6-12% of the total binder content. Fly ash concrete with added gypsum had the potential for use as the base or sub-base course material in road pavements.
