Abstract

This paper describes the smart bus, which uses a passenger information and communication system to enhance the inherent attractiveness of bus transit as a transportation solution for today's cities. The table of contents lists the following headings: transport in our cities; attracting patrons to public transport; smart bus; Melbourne's smart bus project; the technical solution; potential future system enhancements; and benefits to the public.
