Abstract

The first part of the article is devoted to the history of supersonic flight, with attention given to the first manned flight research program, and United States supersonic military programs. The rest of the article discusses the current Supersonic Cruise Research (SCR) program from the points of view of aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, emissions, systems studies, and technology implications.
