Abstract
Plutonium recycling in mixed-oxide (MOX) fuels loaded in light water reactors (LWRs) is economical, ecological, and in agreement with nuclear nonproliferation concerns. To date, more than 500 t of MOX has been loaded in 23 European reactors: MOX recycle is an industrial reality. Still a young and not a unique product, MOX fuel has a great potential for progress, in particular regarding its irradiation performances.
