BOSTON: A MODEL FOR FOSTERING TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT IN DENSE, OLDER CITIES

Abstract

This paper describes a study undertaken for the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) in order to understand the potential of transit-oriented development (TOD) within Boston and the development of policy guidelines for implementation. The insight gained from this project consists of: (1) the establishment of criteria to select the most promising TOD sites; (2) the categorization of the most promising TOD sites into distinct topologies; and (3) the discovery of typology-specific relationships necessary in order for successful TOD to be implemented.
