Abstract

The Tropical Ocea -Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocea -Atmosphere Respons Experient (TOGA COAR) was conceived in order to improve understadig of the pricipal processs responsible for couplig of the ocean and atmosphere in the western Pacifc wan pool region.Field work for TOGA COAR was concentrated in an Intensive Flux Ary (!A) and included a varety of atmospheric and oceanc platforms.The Upper Ocean Processes Group (UOPG) was involved in TOGA COAR though the preparation, deployment, and reovery of a heaviy intrented surace moorig for the observation of ai-sea fluxes and oceanc temperature, salinty, and currents in the upper 300 m.The moorig was deployed at 10,45.27' S, 1550,59.73Eon 21 October 1992 in 1744 m of water.An instrent check-out cruis was underten in December of 1992 in order to evaluate the meterological systems on the buoy.The moorig was recovered on 4 March 1993.Ths report describes moorig deployment operations, the instrment check-out cruise, and the moorig reovery.UOPG personnel also assisted with the deployment and reovery of five other moorigs as a par of the COAR IFA and these operations ar discussed.
