Abstract
This paper was presented session 28 - Transport Planning Techniques 2. This paper desicrbes the development and a proposed methodology for calibration of a simulation model for estimating, at the micro level, operating speed and fuel consumption for all levels of traffic flow on a section of two-lane rural road of any complex horizontal and vertical alignment. Some observations of the results of model runs using default values of free speed, acceleration and deceleration are made. The primary use of the model is to develop an operating speed and fuel consumption relationship with road geometry, surface type and road roughness for use in a highway planning model being developed by Brazil's Ministry of Transportation, through geipot, that will define the inter-relationships between the three components affecting road transportation cost: construction, maintenance and utilisation (a).
