Abstract

London is the latest city to embrace smart card ticketing technology in its public transit system, with a 17 year, US$1.5 billion contract. This will catapult the British capital's public transit into the forefront of the world's public transit systems. In a four year program of development, all 235 Underground stations, 5,800 buses and around 2,500 ticketing outlets will be fitted with the computerized hardware necessary ti deal with a daily tital of eight million passenger journeys.
