Abstract

When evaluating the controllability of a ship, it is essential that the ship should be examined for its ability to handle external forces such as current, waves and wind. To efficiently evaluate ship manoeuvrability under such conditions, a simulation system which can calculate both manoeuvrability and wave-induced ship motion simultaneously has been developed. This system deals with ship manoeuvrability in waves by computation of manoeuvring motion together with ship motion. For example, the system can simulate variations of ship motion due to the ship's turning motion in waves. The simulation system can be utilized for several kinds of ship manoeuvring analyses in waves.
