Abstract
Where low-pressure open feedwater heaters have been used in the recycling systems of steam turbines, it has been necessary to flood the feedwater heater when the scavenging pump fails. Operating practice has shown that the most reliable design is an unreinforced emergency overflow line with a hydraulic seal counecting the heater to the turbine condenser. The design and operation of this emergency overflow system are discussed.
