Abstract

This research paper elaborates the portraits of Suffering Behind Luxury in Edward Zwicks’s movie, Blood Diamond, that are analyzed trough sociological approach. The objectives of the research are to analysis the movie based on structural elements and to analysis the movie based on sociological approach, by identifying the relation between movie and the social background of the early twenty-first century American society. This research paper belongs to qualitative research. The sources the data come from both primary data source, that is movie Blood Diamond and secondary data sources are information about the director’s biography, websites about the movie, and social background of America in the early twenty-first century and the theory of sociological. The method to data analyze the data is descriptive analysis. Having analyzed the movie, the research come to conclusion as follow: (1) the director, Edward Zwicks wants to deliver a moral message that luxury may cause suffering to other people of other country. (2) The director criticizes the luxury lifestyle of upper-class in seeing diamond in the United States.
