Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the financial circumstance and energ service corporation opportunities of California's investor-owned and municipal electric or electric/gas utilities. Background information is provided on the national utility context and the current financial status of the state's major investor-owned electric, electric/gas utilities. Two utility finance/electricity supply strategies for the 1980s are reviewed California and national programs requiring increased utility energy service capabilities are discussed. Concerns and recommendations regarding utility transformation toward broader energy service roles are presented.
