Abstract
We review the major advance in cosmology due to the detection \nof polarization in the cosmic background radiation by DASI \nand WMAP. We discuss the implications of available data, in particular \nfor the cosmic thermal history at redshifts of a few tens; and the \nprospects for the forthcoming space experiments, also in \nconnection with Galactic foreground contamination and \ncosmic-variance limits.
