Abstract

This paper presents the European Transport Safety Council's point of view on transportation accident prevention and countermeasures. It addresses areas that have the greatest likelihood of success in reducing transportation accident injuries and fatalities, and their cost to society. Topics covered include fatality risk in transportation accidents, the most significant transportation safety problems, and transportation safety strategies using numerical targets.
