Abstract

The non-penaeid prawns, with the average \ncatch of 57,000 tonnes, constitute one of the \nimportant marine resources in India. During \n1979-'88 period, the catch of these prawns \nranged from 36,303 - 71,985 tonnes, contributing \n2.2 - 5% to the total marine fish production of \nthe country. They form nearly 32% of the total \nprawn production. Although non-penaeid prawns \nare found all along the coastline, they form \nfisheries of commercial importance only along the \nnorthwest and the northeast coasts.
