Current Practices in Monitoring and Reporting on Sustainability of Visitor Use of Protected Areas

A clear mandate and direction exists for Australian protected area managing agencies to give more attention to monitoring and evaluation and to develop coordinating systems (through the Convention on Biological Diversity Program of Work for protected areas and the joint policy statement on the National Reserve System). This study reviews current monitoring and evaluation practice with respect to visitor use as input to guide the implementation of these commitments.
