Abstract
The name Hawkwood Gabbro is proposed for a gabbroic assemblage included within a part of the Auburn Complex. Rock types and their relationships are complicated and interpretation is based on the detailed mapping of a portion of the gabbro complex measuring about 2,200 feet square. The gabbro is shown to be strongly differentiated into layers of leucogabbro, ferrigabbro and hornblende-olivine pyroxenite The anorthosites in the area are shown to be genetically related to the gabbro. They are intruded into the layered rocks. Country rocks, probably derived from lavas, bedded tuffs and sediments, are present as granulitic xenollths. There are three successively younger intrusive rock units consisting of diorites, pegmatites and trachytes respectively.
