CITIZEN'S POLICY GUIDE TO ENVIRONMENTAL PRIORITIES FOR NEW YORK CITY, 1974-1984. PART III. TRANSPORTATION POLICY AND THE NEW YORK ENVIRONMENT

This report gathers together data never presented in one place before, and thus serves as a reference guide to New York City's transportation patterns and problems. It begins by discussing the transportation problems and their environmental effects and touches briefly on fuel consumption and supplies. Current transportation patterns and trends are then discussed, followed by a look at the financing of mass transit. The remainder of the report is devoted to separate analyses of each of the following modes of transportation: subways, automobiles, buses, trucks railroads, boats and ships, aviation, bicycles and walking. An index is provided to the various proposals discussed for each mode and a table is presented which lists vehicle emissions by mode for 1974.
