Abstract

Alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) are becoming a part of more and more transit fleets or are part of planning for many agencies. This article identifies some of the alternative fuels that are already in use, such as natural gas, hydrogen, hybrids (electric and internal combustion engine), and fuel cells. The emphasis of this article is on ensuring that technicians and operators are comfortable and competent with these complex technologies.
