Abstract
Platelet adhesion to the vessel wall and primary thrombus formation was examined by electron microscopy in the anterior pituitary gland of rats given local x irradiation with 8000 r, 24 hours prior to sacrifice. On repeated sectioning, most platelet aggregates or primary mural thrombi showed at least one area where the thrombocytes were attached to the denuded basement membrane. The implications of this finding and the possible mechanisms involved in platelet- endothelial adhesion are discussed. (auth)
