Abstract
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) implemented the GIRO/ACCES paratransit scheduling system for its HandiRides and DARTABOUT paratransit programs. HandiRides serves elderly and disabled persons in the DART service area; DARTABOUT is a suburban dial-a-ride available to the general public. The new scheduling system, installed on a Digital MicroVAX 4000, allows reservation agents to automatically locate customer pick-up and drop-off addresses via a geographic information system (GIS) database.
