6 A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats

The Coast Guard’s International Port Security (IPS) Program works to improve United States border security by assessing foreign port security and developing practices, laws, and regulations. The IPS program was developed to promote enhanced ship and port security standards. The Coast Guard assesses the effectiveness of foreign trading partner ports’ antiterrorism measures and provides technical assistance to improve any security issues that could affect U.S. port security. The Coast Guard is working with the United Nations and regional organizations to develop the Model Port Security Compendium as an international legislative standard.
