Abstract
Medium-radius horizontal drilling is an outgrowth of the latest technical advances in directional drilling systems. The author discusses how proper planning of the overall operation is important to ensure the ultimate success of both directional and horizontal drilling projects. This article focuses on horizontal prospects, in which the planning stage is more critical because of the rapid vertical-to-horizontal transition rates and the minimal time available to make necessary course corrections. Build rates, sidetrack methods, and motor configurations are areas of major consideration in the horizontal planning process. The interaction of the individual system components also must be evaluated and coordinated.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
A contribution statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
Method details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Findings are not separately available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Limitations are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Application details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
