Abstract
A Clovis PP/K and four flake tools were found in a small, discrete surface concentration, high in the uplands near the dmde between the Washita and Canadian rivers in far western Oklahoma. The small size of the site, its spatial isolation from any adjacent archaeological sites, the absence of campsite debris and the functional harmony of the assemblage suggest that it represents a Paleoindian toolkit. It is argued that small upland sites like this one provide an economical means of retrieving assemblages for wh1ch an assumption of contemporaneity can be reasonably made. The resultant data can in tum be used in sorting out the admixture of multiple components inherent in more intensively occupied sites.
