Abstract
Objective This study was performed to investigate the distribution of hepatitis B virus genotypes in Xiangtan and its clinical significance. Through the study HBV genotyping kit was evaluated. Methods PCR-reverse dot-blot by HBV genotyping kit and DNA sequencing were carried out to determine the HBV genotype of the specimens from 95 patients which were infected by HBV. Results The results of obtained from PCR-reverse dot-blot by HBV genotyping kit were consistent with those of sequence analysis. The prevalence of genotype B was 74.7% (71/95), genotype C was 11.6% (11/95) and mixed of genotype B and C was 13.6% (13/95). Conclusion The results of PCR-reverse dot-blot by HBV genotyping kit are accurate, while its operating procedures are easy. This kit can be promoted and used in the clinical laboratory. The predominant HBV genotypes in Xiangtan were genotype B, C and B+C, in which the major genotype in Xiangtan was genotype B.
