Long-term vegetation dynamics in Southern Scandinavia and their use in managing landscapes for biodiversity.

This paper reviews the long term history of a Swedish forest meadow or wood pasture and an open meadow which illustrate the importance of former cultural activity for current biodiversity values. The longer term development of biodiversity values in Scandinavia are analysed based on these examples, and the approaches to landscape management that aim to maintain some of these values are discussed.
