Abstract

This brief paper points out the necessity for high speed railways in Japan, and reviews the current state of high speed railways in Japan. Japan's approach to high speed railways and related issues are noted, as well as its approach to environmental issues. High speed train operations in eastern Japan are listed, and comments are made on future high speed projects.
