Abstract
Comments are made on the mechanics of porportioning a concrete mixture. Various analytical tools are available to evaluate a given mixture before it is batched. Proportions can also be refined within seconds. Computer use, when coupled with materials monitoring and appropriate mixture adjustments, enables the producer to supply a more uniform and consistent concrete mixture on a day-to-day basis than ever before. ACI Committee 211, Proportioning Concrete Mixtures' efforts in this area are noted. Major revisons to ACI standards are noted. Committee reports and revised standards are underway that address high-strength concrete, roller compacted concrete, and evaluation and adjustment of concrete mixtures. The prediction of performance when using new materials is the most challenging area for the future.
