Abstract
Data on various aspects of travel time constitute one of the basic pre-requisites, for various traffic and transportation studies. While transportation planners require travel time data to analyse travel demand as well as to evaluate the efficiency of traffic flow, the traffic engineer uses it not only to recommend the improvement of facilities but also to suggest priorities in implementation. Travel time is a varying phenomenon, as it differs with reference to roadway as well as traffic characteristics, apart from variations associated with hour, day and season on the one hand and driver and vehicle types on the other. In view of this varying nature of travel time, its estimation should spell out precisely the conditions under which such an estimation of travel time has been made. An attempt has been made here to study the effect of composition and volume of traffic on travel time on urban roads in Delhi. (TRRL)
