Credentialing: The Basics

Abstract

An overview of credentialing concepts is presented. First, the basic term “credentialing” is explained. Next, the different types of individual credentialing are defined and discussed. Finally, program credentialing is reviewed and the specific agencies involved in accreditation and approval of academic programs are identified. The emphasis throughout this paper is on clarifying credentialing concepts as they apply to health education.
