TRUCK TRIP GENERATION CHARACTERISTICS OF NONRESIDENTIAL LAND USES

Open publisher page 36 citations

Abstract

Only limited data exist on truck trip generation, except for truck terminals and industrial parks. This article describes a study conducted in Fontana, California, to determine truck trip generation characteristics for nonresidential land uses, such as warehousing, industrial and truck terminals, and truck sales. Data were grouped according to number of axles and all trucks. The results indicate that trip generation rates for trucks are lower than rates for autos in the case of all land use categories except for truck terminals, which is logical considering their function. The authors suggest additional studies as the Fontana study had limitations, such as a small sample size.
