Abstract

This paper presents a description of an expert system developed to assist local highway agencies in developing countries in managing pavement maintenance. A two module system has been developed for this purpose. The first module is in the form of an interactive algorithm program that simulates the evaluation phase and creates a complete diagnostic report of the pavement condition using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) procedure.
