Abstract
This collection of examples includes descriptions of nine bus stops with functions attached to them. Most of the presented bus stops are located on public roads. The location, significance to the network, connections to land use, solution principles, measurements and capacity of each bus stop is shown. In addition some preliminary ideas for the implementation with indicated costs and responsibilities are given. Further information of the arrangements can be obtained from the named contact persons for each bus stop. The bus stops differ from each other by their character, type, usage and standard of service. The sites have been chosen by each solutions' economic efficiency, maintainability, innovation and general fitness for utilization of the solution. The bus stop at the Ytterjeppo new junction shows how by utilizing the areas of an old junction it is possible to satisfy the needs of public transportation without significant additional costs. It is possible to implement a safe bus stop that attracts both the traffic contractors and the passengers to an interchange. A good example of this is the bus stop at the Siilainen Interchange in Joensuu. The bus stops on public roads are part of the whole public transportation system. When required, also high standard solutions such as heated waiting areas and elevator connections can be provided. Good examples of these are the Leppavaara Change Stations in Espoo. The body responsible for the maintenance of the route does not necessarily have to be alone responsible for the construction and maintenance of the bus stops. By shared responsibility it is possible to aim for a higher level of service. The express stop in Kaarina can be mentioned as a good example. The Kuruntie bus stop in Ylojarvi is an example of a turning area for buses linked to a public road. It is possible to carry out traffic calming measures without disturbing public transportation. The Kaupintie bus stop in Helsinki is an example of this. On bus stops shaped to a bay form higher kerbs can be used. This will help passengers to enter and exit the bus. As an example of this is the Toinen Linja bus stop in Helsinki.
