Abstract
Construction of a new line of the Barcelona metro system is currently being planned as a way to complete and connect up the entire rail network in central Barcelona. Public works contracts have been awarded for design, construction and technical assistance for the new 41- kilometer Line 9, which will have 45 stations. Both directions of the line will be built within a single tunnel bore that will be split by a horizontal concrete slab. Trains will operate one above the other. Completion is expected in about five years.
