Abstract

The U.S. Congress is currently considering amendments to the Federal Clean Air Act that will have significant impacts on the transportation community. This article discusses some of the changes under consideration, and the extent to which they will help improve U.S. air quality. Among the subjects discussed are the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, health effects of air pollution, stationary and mobile sources of air pollution, the integration of air quality and transportation goals, and transportation control measures.
